We hit the road just before 6 am - surprisingly we left a few minutes ahead of schedule. We woke the kids up just minutes before we left and put them in their car seats in the PJs hoping they'd go back to sleep - no such luck. We stopped in San Jose at Juli's for breakfast and so that we could caravan down. We stopped in Pismo Beach for lunch at Subway, but unfortunately it was so foggy and cold that we didn't get to let the kids play at the beach.
We spent the night at a LaQuinta Inn in Ventura. This was a terrific bargain. The rooms were clean, they had a very nice pool and hot tub, and a great complementary breakfast. After settling into our rooms we took a quick dip in the pool and hot tub before going down to the Ventura Harbor to walk on the beach and get some dinner.
